Context and Brief
We were approached by GEA Live in 2023, to design an all-new cinematic concert experience that celebrates the stories, worlds, characters & music from many iconic PlayStation games.
This unique live experience - that fuses the worlds of gaming, storytelling, live show & cinema - needed our expertise across a vast range of multimedia experiences, from live shows to immersive & experiential.
After conceptualising the direction & design of the experience we took on the creative direction, stage design & visual design with one key mission, to transport audiences into the vast worlds of iconic titles through our multidimensional design, where cinematic scenery and visuals bring the epic stories to life outside of the digital universe.

Approach
We wanted to immerse both the musicians and audience in the vast worlds and stories from the games. To achieve this, we needed to design a modular space that places the cinematic storytelling at the heart of the experience and envelopes the musicians within these visual worlds to focus on the visual storytelling and amplify the immersion. So we designed our modular stage using multiple layers of LED screen and projection surface to aid the storytelling. Complimented by lighting and lasers, this extends the worlds beyond the stage and into the arenas
Technical
Overview
Bringing these beloved games to life in a live performance requires a state-of-the-art technical approach. We designed a dynamic, multi-layered stage featuring high-resolution multi-projector 3D-mapped visuals, roll-drop gauzes that moved fluidly throughout the show, a massive 17.5m-wide led screen, and advanced LED lighting. This setup allowed us to layer graphics seamlessly, enveloping the musicians in rich gaming landscapes, adding depth, and enhancing the audience’s immersion.
The real challenge was how to adapt in-game visuals for a large-scale, multi-layered stage, ensuring they worked across various audience perspectives across a variety of venues. Our custom-built pre-visualisation tool is a huge factor in helping us understand the creative & technical choices to transform the space.
