Context and Brief

For Sandy Lam's "Reconstructed Hong Kong Exclusive", we developed the visual design for several tracks, including Breathe In, Breathe Out, Naked Secret, Two Heart Flower and Day and Night.

Our work aimed to expand the show’s visual language across digital and surreal environments, journeying through cinematic landscapes and more intimate, narrative-led textural moments, each sequence designed to deepen the emotional Resonance of Sandy’s iconic tracks and performance.

Creative Vision + Art Direction

Working closely with Sandy’s creative director Mark Cheng, we developed bespoke 3D environments and particle simulations, expanding the show into surreal digital worlds and taking the viewers on a dramatic journey along the show’s wider narrative - the real world reimagined as a digital construct.

Drawing on references spanning neo-classical architecture, fluid dynamics, transhumanism, and futuristic and alien landscapes, the work focused on immersive, real-time procedural environments, with the screens used as interactive elements, physical extensions of the stage, and portals into imagined realms.

A key aspect of the design was the interplay between photoreal and digital spaces, allowing our team to develop a visual system operating between digital and physical scenarios, further heightened by moments where the central Oval screen directly interacted with the main LED visuals.

Technical

Implementation

The rotating Oval screen was positioned in front of the main LED wall and, at times, became a moving vertical platform that Sandy performed on. It was used to physically interact with the main LED animation, with visuals designed around the real-world automation timing and movement on site.

The visuals were built using Notch, leveraging real-time particle simulations, 3D lighting and rendering, landscape modelling, and displacement tools, supported by Cinema 4D for modelling and After Effects for compositing, with our render farm enabling high-resolution output at speed.
